RoJam 2023

What is RoJam?

RoJam is a Roblox development "Game Jam"! You will be given a theme, and you and your team will have 10 days to make the best game possible that links to the given theme. You then submit your game, and it is judged, and you have the opportunity to win some amazing prizes! You should just make one game, and try to avoid obbies and showcase/scene that aren't "playable games". You can publish the game after the game jam (after the game jam you can add monetization features, but please don't do this before judging). Please also read the rules regarding free models.

Contact

The event is being managed by RoDevs (a Roblox dev server with 61k members), however many other servers are also participating in the event to make it the biggest and best possible! You can contact Yankue (Manager of RoDevs - @yankue on Discord) for help, or alternatively or the admins of any of the participating server.

Rules

  1. Teams may only have up to 4 members. These must be the 4 people specified on the application form, and cannot be changed during the event. You may get others to help you test your game or give suggestions/bug reports, but they must not actively work on or manage the game. -
  2. You must not use any assets (scripts, models, graphics, builds, textures, etc) that you did not make yourself during the given time period. This means no free models, no bought/paid assets, no reusing assets you made before the event. However you are allowed to use free clothing and sound effects/music out of the asset store or that you made before the event, because you need to pay robux or a quota is enforced for uploading such assets to roblox, so it would be unfair if you had to do this yourself.
  3. Should you get banned from a participating server during the event, you may be disqualified (if you're in multiple participating servers a decision will be made as to whether you can participate or not)
  4. Following on from that, if we find you are attempting to cheat or being toxic or generally being disagreeable you can be disqualified and/or banned from servers.

FAQ

Yes, you can work in teams of up to 4 people (one person will need to be the “leader” to submit all the forms). It is also completely fine to work as an individual (or a group of 2 or 3)

We will not disclose the theme until the event fully starts, to avoid people working on it before the time period has begun.

Registration starts: 5th July (you should submit the form to enter)
Registration closes: 9th July (you must have submitted the form by this date to enter)
Work begins: 10th July (theme is announced)
Work ends: 20th July (you must submit your game by this date) Judging will then commence, and we will have the results and distribute prizes ASAP!

1st place - $250
2nd place - $100
3rd place - 5k Robux
Prizes will be equally split between team members, unless you tell us otherwise.
There will also be some special mentions (details TBC) which may receive nitro and/or robux.

10 days.

No, all scripts/builds/models/graphics/everything has to be made by your team during the time period (so no reusing assets from other games you own). The only exception is clothing and sound, as you have to pay (or have a quota) to upload these to roblox, so it is ok to use these from the marketplace. You can use external APIs and studio plugins.

Entry is free.

This event is being run by RoDevs, a roblox development discord server with 61,000 members.
However, we have partnered with many other roblox dev servers to make RoJam even bigger and better, so if you're a member of any of those servers you can participate and do not have to join RoDevs. These servers are: Roblox Studio Community, RoBuilders, Hire Developers, Scripting Helpers, School of Developers.

If you have less than the maximum team size (4 people), you can add people to your team, but please inform Yankue#1296 when you do this. If you have 4 people already, you cannot have more than 4, and cannot swap/switch people in your team.

No! Everything must be made during the time given, other than the exceptions shown in the free models section above.

Not really. You can submit unfinished games, however if your game is very basic or has very little effort put into it you won't get judged very highly.

Not very closely, but the theme must be obviously present.

We will be able to provide giftcards (of your choice) that are worth the same amount as your prize.

Our panel of judges (admins of all participating servers) will go through and between them play every game submitted. They will then create a shortlist, and all judges will play all games on the shortlist, and then vote for winners from the shortlist.
